Getting Started

Kite Boston was founded out of desire to help existing New England kiteboarding community as well as potential new kiters who are just getting in the sport. Based on years of experience kiting and teaching kiteboarding, we say with confidence that Boston and Cape Cod have some of the best kiting conditions available in New England. Get in touch with KiteBoston if you are new to the Boston Kite scene, would like to learn or need to get some information about kiteboarding in MA (massachusetts).

Frequently Asked Questions

1. You should expect to spend $1050 - $1200 for PRIVATE KITE LESSONS.

2.If you have a friend who wants to take a lesson with you, 2 person GROUP LESSON is an alternative that will cost $750 per person.

No problem, just reach out to KiteBoston and we will arrange larger group kite lesson.

You will need kite, kiteboarding control bar, kiteboard, harness, wetsuit and booties. All provided at KiteBoston school for duration of lessons.

Beginner kiteboarding gear set up package can cost anywhere from $1500 - $4000 depending on the quality and condition of the equipment (new vs used), and how many kites / boards you are planning to purchase

If you are just getting into Kiteboarding, we recommend purchasing equipment in the following order:

1) 12M -14M (depending on your weight) kite with a control bar + large light wind board + harness + wetsuit.
2) 8M -10M kite for stronger winds.
3) Once you feel comfortable riding on the light wind board, it is time to start looking for a smaller kiteboard (usually somewhere between 132CM-136CM).

Best places to take kiteboarding lessons are at Nahant beach, Revere beach, or Cape Code.

Although, some physical conditioning is required the wind and your body weight will do most of the work for you. The force from the kite is countered by your body weight using harness that reduces the strain on your arms. All kiteboarding lessons for beginners take place in shallow water, but basic swimming skills are a must. Give us a call if you are unsure of your fitness level.

It will certainly help, since there are some similarities in board control, and wind awareness from windsurfing or other sailing sports.

Although, it's possible to kiteboard year around in New England for the best learning curve we recommend taking lessons from May 1st to middle of November.

There are a lot of good kiting spots that will make you a happy kiter. To those Kitesurfers who are looking for some wave riding we would recommend checking out Horse Neck in Rd Island or Nahant Long Beach, which is closer to Boston.
Flat Water enthusiasts can enjoy arguably the best inside city spot there is in United States Pleasure Bay in South Boston,
Hardings beach in Chatham (MA), Dog Beach located on the west side of Nahant but only during low tides! Also, check the following link for some other kitesurfing beaches in New England:

We have taught people well into their sixties and under 18. So, as long as you have the desire and are in good health, we will help you learn at your own pace!

If kite surfing lesson is cancelled we will reschedule your lesson for next suitable date.

Since we limit our classes to 2 students per instructor, we will support you at whatever speed you are learning. Each student practices for 8-12 minutes taking turns, so that the instructor can readjust to your needs. From our experience, this is the most efficient way to learn, since each student stays fresh and gets a chance to learn from each other. It is important not to try and compare yourself and your learning progress to the other students; not everyone learns at the same pace, and often "slow and steady wins the race" as they say.

We will provide you with an honest feedback on your level. In most cases students leave confident enough to progress on their own. Also we strongly encourage a "buddy system", where you can progress along with someone of your level. Be sure to check with us on special clinics and discounts for students who need additional instructions.
You can always retake any of the lessons at a discounted price or take a refresher lesson (something we do for people who tried kiteboarding while on vocation or just never really got into it and need a little extra supervised time to gain the confidence).
